The situation has sparked intense speculation, especially with MotoGP doctor Angel Charte stating that Marquez's return in Portugal would be "very difficult." Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi added fuel to the fire, confirming that Marquez is almost certainly out for Portimao and that his return might not happen until the Sepang test in February 2026.
Speaking to DAZN, Tardozzi acknowledged the possibility of Bulega stepping in for Marquez at Portimao, saying, "It's a possibility. Nicolo is focused on the SBK championship this weekend; we'll consider his MotoGP debut after that."

Marquez's injury, a fracture to his right shoulder after a collision with Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi during the Indonesian Grand Prix, has kept him out of the spotlight. He underwent surgery and has been recovering in Spain.
Ducati has already confirmed that Marquez will miss the Australia-Malaysia double-header, with test rider Michele Pirro taking his place for the Australian Grand Prix this weekend. Pirro is also expected to race in Malaysia on October 25-26.
