PARKERSBURG — On Sunday, July 31, a Christian Service Recognition Awards program was held at Christ United Methodist Church.

The ROCS Awards ceremony is an opportunity to thank the congregation for all the work it does. All who serve in some way are thanked, whether through faithful attendance, service on a committee or helping in a church service ministry, organizers said.

This year, a special Lifetime Service Award was presented to Maxine Childs who has faithfully served Christ UMC in a variety of ways over the years. She faithfully decorated the church, hosted meals, served as communion steward and delegate. The church is grateful for his years of service.

A special ministry that has been highlighted is the Jon Six Food Ministry. There are more than a dozen regular volunteers who represent several churches, who prepare and serve 150 to 300 meals a week. Six and all volunteers were thanked for their good work.

The Food Ministry operates largely through donations from the community, generous donors, and grants from the Vienna Baptist Church, Sisters Health Foundation, and Legacy Real Estate Professionals.
