CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) – Joey Loperfido hit two home runs with a brace and a baseline to help Duke pass No.8 seed Virginia 4-2 on Saturday to send the Blue Devils to their very first appearance at the CCA Championship.

The ninth-seeded Blue Devils (31-20) have now claimed 11 straight wins and qualify to face Saturday’s winner between No.2-seeded Georgia Tech and third-seeded North Carolina State on Sunday.

Loperfido, a senior left-handed left-hander, started the game with an opposite field home run and did the same early in the third set. It was the first multi-circuit game of his career.

Ethan Murray followed the Loperfido homerun with his own solo shot to give Duke a 3-0 lead.

Alex Tappen put the Cavaliers (29-23) on the board with a solo shot at the bottom of the third, and an inning then reduced the deficit to 3-2 when Logan Michaels made a single through the right side to score Kyle Teel. The round ended when Tappen flew to right field with the runners in the second and third row.

Luke Fox distributed eight hits in seven innings and struck out seven without a march for the Blue Devils.
